My husband asked me to make him some Pisu Chicken. My mother in law learned this dish from a Sri Lankan woman, and I in turn learned it from my mother in law. When I tried it, I loved it so much and I though that it was a great and delicious dish that I should share with all of you, so you have the chance to try and taste it too. Let’s cook together and have some fun! 🙂
This recipe makes 4 servings.
Ingredients
- 1 Kg or 2 lbs Chicken Breasts
- 2 large Potatoes
- 1 tbsp Tomato Paste
- 1 tsp grated Ginger
- 1 tbsp Hot Pepper Paste
- 1 tsp Turmeric
- 2 tsp Curry Powder
- 1/4 cup Plain Yogurt
- 2 tbsp Honey
- White Pepper
- Salt
Making the Pisu Chicken
I started by cutting the Chicken breasts into small cubes and put them in a large zip lock bag. I then mixed all the other ingredients, except for the potatoes, to get the marinating mixture ready. Once ready, I poured it on top of the chicken, closed my bag and mixed the chicken with the sauce so that each chicken cube was totally marinated. I then placed the bag in the fridge for a minimum of 2 hours (can be left up to overnight).
Once ready to cook, I placed my chicken with the remaining sauce in a baking pan and cut my potatoes into cubes and placed them in the same pan and put it in a preheated oven at 425 degrees Fahrenheit or 220 degrees Celsius for around 45 minutes or until the chicken and potatoes are completely cooked.
I served my Pisu chicken with some white rice on the side but you can have it with some bread and/or with or without rice as well. It was an amazing recipe and I’m so glad I tried it; will definitely be making it again.
Enjoy! 🙂
