Lebanese Spicy Potatoes (Batata Harra)

This needs no introductions. You either love this or you don’t know that you love it yet. If you do not know, this is your chance to try it and I am sure you will like it. Let’s cook together and have some fun 🙂

This recipe makes 1 medium bowl.

Ingredients

  • 3 large Russet Potatoes
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 2 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 4 cloves of Garlic (Crushed)
  • 1/2 bunch of Cilantro  (Chopped)
  • 1 Jalapeno (optional)
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • Salt

Making the Batata Harra

I started by cutting my potatoes into 1/2 by 1/2 inch cubes (1.5 by 1.5 cm) cubes. I then placed the potatoes in a pan and covered them in water. I then turned on the heat to medium and left them on the stove until the water started to boil. I removed them at that point and deep fried them. In a separate skillet, I placed my butter and oil on medium heat. When the butter melted, I placed my Jalapeno and cooked it for 5 minutes then added my garlic and chopped cilantro and cooked for another 2 minutes. By that point, the potatoes have been fried and removed from the oil. I added them to the skillet and mixed everything together. I then added my paprika, coriander powder, and salt. I mixed everything together and turned off the heat. I finally added my lemon juice and mixed it in and let it rest for a couple of minutes until the potatoes have absorbed the lemon juice and became acidic.

This is a lovely side dish, when we make it and invite people, no matter how much I make, nothing is left at the end of the night. Try it and let me know what you think 🙂

Enjoy!
