Chicken Shawarma

This is the best thing you can eat. Let’s cook and have fun together! 🙂

This recipe makes 6 small sandwiches or 4 large sandwiches.

Ingredients

The ingredients
  • 4 Chicken Breasts
  • 3/4 Cup Yogurt
  • 1 tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 tbsp White Vinegar
  • 2 Minced Garlic Cloves
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • Pinch of Black Pepper
The Spices (part of the marination)
  • Pinch of Garlic Powder
  • Pinch of cumin
  • Pinch of Crushed Cardamom
  • Pinch of All Spice
  • Pinch of Paprika
  • Pinch of Cinnamon
  • Pinch of  Ginger Powder
  • Pinch of  Ground Cloves

Preparation and Marination

We started by butterflying our chicken and cutting them into small strips. We then prepared our marination by mixing all the ingredients together in a large bowl. We then added our chicken strips and mixed them in. We kept our delicious mixture in the fridge for 6 hours (you can leave it overnight if you like) to let all the flavors get into the chicken.

In a wide pan, we added 2 tbsp of neutral oil and our chicken mixture on medium heat. When the chicken is cooked and there is no water left in the bottom of the pan, it’s ready.

Building the Sandwich

We started by making our own Saj Bread, but regular Pita bread works just as well. We then spread 2 tsp of garlic paste and added some Shawarma on top, Add fries, and sour pickles. Wrap it like you are swaddling your baby and grill it for a few minutes to make your wrap crispy.

Enjoy the best bite ever! 🙂 We enjoyed it with some Tabbouleh on the side to perfect our Lebanese meal.
