My Husband was craving Chinese food, specifically General Tso’s chicken which we always love to order at Chinese restaurants. Since we are still not going that much to restaurants, I decided to make it at home. It turned out to be an easy recipe and a very delicious one. I served it with my special Fried Rice as a side. Let’s cook together and have some fun! 🙂
This recipe makes a medium bowl (around 3 portions).
Ingredients
- 1Kg or 2 lbs Chicken Tenderloin or Breasts
- 1/4 cup Cornstarch
- 3 Garlic Cloves (Crushed)
- 1 tbsp grated Fresh Ginger
- 1 tsp Red Chili Flakes
For the Sauce:
- 4 tbsp Soy Sauce
- 4 tbsp Rice Vinegar
- 2 tbsp Hoisin Sauce
- 1/4 cup Water
- 3 tbsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp Cornstarch
Toasted Sesame and Green Onions for Garnishing
Making the General Tso's Chicken
I started by cutting my chicken into 1 inch cubes and then covered them with cornstarch from all the sides and kept aside. I then mixed all the sauce ingredients together in a small bowl. In a skillet, I cooked my chicken with some oil on medium heat until they became golden brown. I removed my chicken and set aside.
I left a bit of oil in my skillet and sauteed the ginger, garlic and red chili flakes.
I then poured the sauce mixture into the skillet and added back the cooked chicken and made sure they all got coated with the sauce. I served them immediately after garnishing with some toasted sesame and green onions.
I made some fried rice (I used the Fried Rice recipe without the shrimps) on the side which was a great combination with the general Tso’s chicken.
Enjoy! 🙂
