Potato Pan

We grew up having this dish as a main dish with a salad always accompanying it. Its mainly made of boiled mashed potatoes split into 2 layers and a layer of ground beef in the middle. It’s a lovely dish that we always enjoy having it. Let’s cook it together and have some fun! 🙂
This recipe makes a 9by 13 inch pan, for around 4 servings.

Ingredients

  • 5 medium Russet Potatoes
  • 1 Egg
  • 300g Ground beef
  • 1 small Onion (chopped)
  • Handfull of raw Pines
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp All spices
  • 1/2 tsp 7 spices
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp Breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup of Shredded Mozarella Cheese

Making the Potato Pan

I started by peeling the potatoes and cutting them to cubes. I washed them and then let them boil for 20 mins in a pan or until they become soft. I removed them from water and put them in a large bowl and mashed them using a potato masher (or a fork). I then added salt and All spices and the egg and mixed everything to get my paste mixture.
In a skillet, I sautéed my onion on medium heat until they became translucent and then added the ground beef and all the spices and salt. I kept them on medium heat until the beef is well cooked. I then added the pines to it and let them toast a bit.
I then started layering my pan, I split the potato mixture in half. I used one half for the 1st layer at the bottom of the pan. I then added the 2nd layer of ground beef. Finally, the 3rd layer, is the remaining half of the potato mixture.
I spread the bread crumbs and cheese on top. I then sliced into the potato pan and made 2 wholes in it. Before baking it I added some vegetable oil on top and in the wholes and baked it in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 177 degrees Celsius for around 35 mins or until the top is golden brown.

It was a delicious dish that can be enjoyed at anytime of the year:) we enjoyed it today with a side of Fattoush.

Enjoy!
